Description

This course is aimed at beginners willing to get started with Image Analysis or to improve their basic knowledge.

The following concepts will be introduced with ImageJ/Fiji hands-on-sessions and exercises:

  • Overview:
    • Basic concepts: image characteristics, visualisation, regions of interest and measurements
    • Segmentation basics: thresholding, mask/region analysis, spot detection, etc.

The course will be held on May 27 from 9:00 to 17:00, in CSBD Seminar room top floor.

In accordance with the MPI-CBG recharge policy, the course will cost 100 Euros for MPI-CBG staff (200 euros otherwise).  Please verify that this is okay with your group or service leader.

Positive:

  • Good pace – 4x
  • Exercises, hands-on were fun, smaller and easy to follow – 6x
  • Booklet is useful to check notes and have something to fall back on – 2x
  • Presentation, content was good
  • Liked the support received during the course during exercises
  • Found it best that the course started from the very basics of image analysis which is useful for someone who does not know anything about bio-image analysis – 2x
  • Shortcuts shown during the course
  • Structure of the course
  • Used trial and error as basis before for image analysis, now the concepts are clearer

 

Negative:

  • Presentation slides resolution was too small to follow sometimes
  • Could have provided a few examples involving z-stacks
  • Hands-on was sometimes difficult to keep up with

 

Suggestions:

  • Scripting, macro programming – 4x
  • Basics of cell profiler (3 users from 14 participants) – 2x
  • Python or MATLAB based image analysis course – 2x
  • Good practices in bio-image analysis
  • More dynamic/fun task after lunch
  • Include short explanation of algorithms behind methods used in FIJI
