Scientific Programme

Keynote Speaker I - Patrick Wohlfahrt

To kick-start our meeting and inspire PhD students we have the fantastic, Patrick Wohlfahrt High Precision Radiotherapy group of Christian Richter at OncoRay! Patrik is almost at the end of his PhD journey and will give a vision talk about current challenges and future advances of proton therapy.

A few words about Patrik:

Patrik was born not far from Dresden in Ebersdorf, Thuringia. After bachelor studies in Medical Physics in Halle he moved to Dresden and completed his Master’s degree in Medical Radiation Sciences at the TUD. Already at that time he started to focus his work on the use of computer tomography (CT) in proton therapy treatment planning. Patrik then stayed in Dresden to continue with his research and now he is finishing his PhD in Medical Physics at OncoRay - National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology

Keynote Speaker II - Jacqueline Tabler

Ever wondered how to proceed with a career in science? The high and low points on the road to becoming a PI? Our second keynote speaker will answer all your questions about the professional journey of a PI.

Few words about Jacqueline Tabler:

We are happy to have as our second keynote speaker Jacqueline Tabler. She finished her undergraduate and PhD studies at Kings College, London. After a PostDoc position at university of Texas, Jacqueline is moving to Dresden and opening her own lab in 2017. In Dresden she is focused on cell biology and dinamics of skull growth and combines a novel ex-vivo live imaging technique, tissue mechanics, and mammalian genetics to understand how the skull grows.

Student Talks

In addition to our Keynote Speaker, we invite PhD Students to give a short talk (10 min + 5 min Discussion) about their project. We encourage students from all stages of the PhD to apply to share their work and receive feedback from their peers.

Workshop on communication is science

In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to have a short tutorial on some important parts of a journey that is a PhD. We will have two sessions where participants learn how to put together a great presentation and a poster. A third session will focus on communication with the public,  explaining how to present your science through media and public outreach platforms.

Poster Session and Chalk Talks

It's a poster session.

Posters are entirely voluntary but strongly encouraged. Flipcharts/Whiteboards will be provided for participants who prefer to give a chalk talk than present a poster.

Food and drinks will be provided!
